Thirsty? You're Probably Dehydrated


Most of us know what it feels like to be thirsty or dehydrated. You may get a headache, feel sluggish, have chapped lips and dark urine. Studies show that dehydration can alter a person’s mood, energy level, and ability to think clearly.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) water helps your body:

  • Keep your temperature normal
  • Lubricate and cushion joints
  • Protect your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues
  • Get rid of waste through urine, perspiration, and bowl movements

If you struggle to drink enough water during the day:

  • Try carrying a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go.
  • Add lemon or lime to your water during meals, a little zest of flavor may help you drink more.
  • Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to drink water regularly and keep track of how much you drink.
  • Spice up plain water - try a sparkling or flavored water

If you are engaging in physical activity, your body needs more water than normal. Remember, by the time you feel thirsty, you are probably already a bit dehydrated!
