Quick + Easy + Satisfying Meals

When it comes to everyday life, it's about making ends meet. Sometimes, the last thing you want to think about after a long day is cooking a meal from scratch. Life can be stressful, but cooking doesn't have to be.

When you don’t have the time or energy to spend an hour in the kitchen, consider trying one of the recipe ideas on FoodHero.org that take 30 minutes or less. Did we mention they taste great, too?

Here’s a few other affordable ways you can add fruits and veggies to the meals you’re already making:

  • Breakfast is the perfect time for fruit. Try topping your cereal or oatmeal with fresh or dried fruit. Add blueberries to your pancakes—maybe even try making whole-wheat pancakes. Or add strawberries to your low-fat yogurt.
  • Lunch is a great time for an energizing meal. If you’re eating out, make healthier decisions about your order by including things like whole wheat bread, egg whites or extra veggies. If you pack your own, try swapping your bag of chips for carrots, cherry tomatoes or apple slices.
  • At dinner, try pairing lean protein with fruits and veggies, like chicken with corn, or lentils in a salad. Good sources of protein include meat, fish, chicken, eggs, dairy, beans, soy foods, nuts and seeds. Try for 60%, or two-thirds, of your plate to be plant-based foods, like fruits and vegetables.
